How the ‘Walmart effect’ is major warning sign for the American economy
Walmart may be the siren before an economic storm - at least that's what one financial expert believes.
Economist Jim Paulsen calls his theory the "Walmart Recession Signal" (WRS). When Walmart's stock goes up and shares of luxury companies in the S&P Global Luxury Index go down, it's a sign that the country may be headed for a recession...
Trump’s 50% Canada tariffs challenged in court
A lawsuit filed this week is seeking the removal of tariffs on imports into the U.S. from Canada.
The suit, filed in the U.S. Court of International Trade Tuesday on behalf of food importing company Gellert Global Group, alleges that
President Donald Trump overstepped his executive powers by implementing a 50% tariff on $20 billion worth of Canada goods earlier this year and that the trade policy disrupted supplier relationships while adding costs for the family-run business. The suit asks for the court to strike down the levies, block their collection and order refunds...

CoStar: Retail construction activity, new project starts fall in Q3
Retail construction activity slowed down in the third quarter as increased costs continued to put pressure on new development.
According to the latest data from CoStar Group, roughly 58.3 million square feet of retail space was under construction in the U.S. in the third quarter of 2026, down from 60.6 million square feet in the second quarter and 63.3 million square feet in the first quarter. U.S. Inflation in September and Implications for the Fed
Inflation concerns continue to be the heaviest factor explaining short-term equity movements. The consensus among economists anticipated a strong U.S. inflation reading for September, which ultimately surprised on the downside: headline CPI reached +0.6%, in line with the year-over-year rate moving from 3.4% to 3.7%, while core CPI came in at +0.3% versus the +0.2% expected, shifting from 2.4% to 2.6% year-over-year. Its impact was amplified by the proximity of the Federal Reserve meeting scheduled for the 28th.
However, we believe the release was not strong enough to justify another rate hike in October. Beyond the impact of rising energy costs and the effect of AI investments on the prices of PCs, software, and mobile phones, the only aspect to monitor is the uptick in Owners’ Equivalent Rent (OER), which rose compared to the previous month...
